Welcome to the world of catapulting
22AD is a New Zealand based group which takes its name from 22D Battery RNZA, which is now the anti-aircraft unit attached to 7WnHB Group, the Wellington based territorial battalion. The logo is based on the military tac sign for artillery with the A added to imply the ancient nature of the artillery. This modern and military approach to an examination of ancient crewed weapons systems is central to approach taken by 22AD in researching, reconstructing and testing ancient and medieval artillery.
The group is run by Murray Hill, an ex-army History and Classics teacher. It undertakes a number of community based activities centering around the groups catapult research and Classical Studies activities. The group also assists other organisations staging similar activities. These activities and research are supported by sales of plans and kit-sets which are available on the downloads page.
